Mixes have been unthrottled thx to a donation. Am I supposed to keep who anonymous? Fuck, I've no clue the etiquette of begging.

November 13, 2004 - Hit the limit We've reached out bandwidth limit for this month. The new mixes, served at mixes.bmbx.org, will be down for 7 days, that's when our billing cycle flips and restarts. Feel free to donate for our bandwidth. It goes right to our hosting company. Just go to mixes.bmbx.org or to the donate link to the left to do it. Older mixes, served on the klunky slowish server, are still available. And we are hosting Pass the Parcel on a different server, so that can keep going. Posted by: assorted on November 14, 2004 10:13 PMEtiquette? Have u thought of using Bit Torrent to ease the squeeze on your server? free software that shares the bandwidth strain between those downloading ... http://bittorrent.com/introduction.html just a thought... cheers for your efforts :-) also check this - Good thinking - I'll make torrents of the contents of my boombox folder when I get a chance - I don't have much of the new stuff but I have a lot of the older stuff. Although if boombox would prefer to keep stats on how many downloads etc - thats fair enough .......... And Condoleezza Rice is America's new Secretary of State ......... "US policy, she is said to have remarked, should be "to punish France, ignore Germany and forgive Russia." the world is headed to WW3 against "old Europe"!! Improbable ? who would have thought the world would be in the state it is, 4 years ago ? As the ancient chinese curse goes : "may you live in interesting times" I'm a bit drunk writing all this, by the way in case you haven't copped on .................. but I think the sentiments are valid.
bittorrent is a very interesting solution that will probably be quite necassary as the site gets more popular (which it will, the site has only become more popular as each month has gotten on). Posted by: assorted on November 17, 2004 10:54 PMprotos, your brother reckons you might be the guy to talk to about installing a rating script that takes votes out of 5 points and spits out an average... is it possible? Posted by: naz on November 18, 2004 10:34 PMooh a rating script...that sounds neato. i give it 2 spines up :-P Posted by: Spiny Norman on November 19, 2004 04:23 AMGive me more details. Shouldn't be that hard ......... Wow. How much does the bbox server (in currency) need to stay alive, naz?
its about 400 bucks a year outside of extra bandwidth charges, we got 60 bucks towards extra bandwidth (thanks!) which should see us through the ends of a couple of months - hopefully the cost of bandwidth will fall again soon, as it has in the past, and we'll get more bang for our buck.. protos: the basic thing i was thinking about was a drop down menu, with 0-5 ratings and a submit button. It would need to collate all the votes for a particular mix entry number (visible by clicking the timestamp) and spit out the average rating advanced features would be setting a cookie so each browser can only vote once, or some code that prevents duplicate ratings on a single mix from one i.p I've been looking for a movable type plugin that would take care of it for us, but haven't had any luck. Let me know what you think ... Posted by: naz on November 19, 2004 03:18 PMPost a comment
