We'll be back in a couple of weeks with a new version and the beginning of the awards for the best mixes. Mixers are welcome to keep uploading mixes.
We'll be posting more mixes at once this month so that we leave some time at the end of the month to upgrade the site software before we get busy with the awards in November and December. If anyone is sitting on a mix that they intend to upload later in the month, it would help us if you submitted it a little earlier this time around. Also, the front page now displays 12 mixes at once, instead of 7.
We're back now, more or less. The attempted upgrades didn't go as planned and the underlying problems they were meant to solve still exist as the site needed to be rolled back to a previous version. We'll try upgrading again in a few weeks, with less distruption this time. A few comments were lost. The newest mixes will be up for another week, starting from today.
Hey there,
Welcome to version 7 of b00mb0x. Special thanks from assorted and I go to iluvaxlrose and ambientfusion, who contributed towards this update, which was a little overdue. Changes from version 6: All mp3 links should now be valid for those with access to the archive. That means there's 21 GB of mixes from the last 4.5 years available to download to those with access as well as 800 MB of publicly accessible mixes - all on supafast HTTP servers. We want to hear about any that are not valid, but our link checker program reckons we are good to go. Thanks to iluvaxlrose who helped assorted and I fix these links. New design. Thanks to ambientfusion who supplied a part of it with his site cover for this month. After three years of the old design, we were due a change.
Donations. We had $202.30 in charges for this month and $89.00 in donations. 90 dollars in donations a month obviously kicks ass, but doing the math, we'd go down regardless. Donators from now on donate a set amount, which hopefully will keep us treading water. Anyone who's already donated need not donate again, you still have access to the archives. The same goes for our superstar mixers. I tried to automate this, but couldn't so the lag between donating and downloading archived mixes remains. If you can't afford to donate, make sure to check the site often for public mixes and consider joining the mailing list. Subscriptions and Notifications. We've had a join the b00mb0x email list for quite some time and theres a few hundred folks on it. Problem is, it's rarely updated. We've automated this so members of the list will receive a notification when there's a new mix. It's where the old list was, at the bottom right of the page. b00mbl0g forum. Mixers who haven't regged on the forum may want to for some goodies. Help requested. If you use an audio program not covered in our modest tutorials, please consider helping everyone out by making your own. If you need help with how to capture screenshots, let us know. We'd also like people to help out with our blog, as several of our regular bloggers are offline for an extended period. That's it! Enjoy version 7!
Yeegads, There's a very large mix queue and both myself and assorted don't have any net access at the moment from our homes. b00mb0x trundles along regardless of course but maybe some people may be wondering why their mixes haven't been posted. From now on we're posting the mixes in the order in which we've received them. It's nice if you made a mix for your grandmas birthday that you'd like posted before or on a certain date, but it's not something we can do without leapfrogging some poor fucker. Besides, that might be the day I've chosen to spend snorting cocaine from the bellybutton of Welshman. The easiest way to see your place in the queue is to log onto the ftp and sort by date modified. This is fair and you can rightly chastise us as the mean assholes we are if you are subsequently skipped. I'd really like if folks got their covers in below 200 k in size and 1600 px in width because it really cuts down on the time it takes to post new content. Theres a mix with a 5 mb cover that I'll have to post without a cover because i have no image editors on my laptop at the moment. If the cover is compressed and sized for the web before it gets here, I can post there and then, from where ever. Maybe we can include a link to print quality cd covers with mixes soon but not right now. I'll summarise this in the FAQ when I can. P.S : Some recent mix links are dead temporarily while we rotate the mixes.
So that the right hand of b00mb0x knows what the left hand is doing, please use the contact email on the menu at the right to contact us re the site. This gets both me and assorted and it's likely that one of us will be able to help should the other be away. Folks with new mixes need not contact us by email letting us know there is a new mix on the server unless they are completely new to b00mb0x. If you're uploading your mix, its advisable to upload your covers, tracklists and descriptions to the FTP (preferably in a seperate folder).
Thanks to a flurry of donations, we've been able to expand our webhosting plan and are now slowly putting the archive (all the mixes) back online. These mixes are available to mixers and/or folks that have donated money to our bandwidth which is fucking gigantic. Newer mixes are available to everyone, but just the front page at the moment. As it comes up I'll be linking it here so you can know what's now available. As of today, April 16, the following months of mixes are back online: As of today, April 14, the following months of mixes are back online: As of today, April 13, the following months of mixes are back online: As of tonight, mixes from January 04, February 04, March 04 and April 04 are back online. as of the 9th of April , mixes from January 05, February 05, March 05 are back online. as of today (9th of April again) following mixes are on the archive: December 03, November 03, October 03, September 03, August 03, July 03, June 03, May 03, April 03, March 03, February 03, January 03. Download managers may have problems grabbing the links, my nettransport does anyway. I think flashGet can be configured with the archive username and pass so maybe you wanna use that. Mixers and bandwidth donators can email us for a password if they have not received one yet.
Thanks to a bunch of donations, we are very likely to have the entire mix archive up in the following week, as we have upgraded our web hosting plan and now have much more storage and bandwidth. So ALL mixes will be hosted high speed on stable servers. Whoohoo! Space is going to be tight, it looks like the whole mix archive is about 12 gigs or so, while we have 14 gigs in storage now. That doesn't give us much room for expansion once it's up. I'd like to put the first 2 years of mixes somewhere else. The mixes will take up about 2-3 gigs, and will generate nowhere near as much bandwidth as the newer ones. So does anyone have 2 gigs of storage we can direct link to lying around? Again, this wouldn't be a bandwidth burden on you, simply a storage burden.
we're back in business, I'll be posting a new batch of mixes in a couple of days.
You'll see there is a new link on the left hand menu of the site, Christmas mixes. For this month, we'll have any Christmas mixes ever contributed to the site downloadable on one of our fast servers, as part of our Christmas cheer. Due to the awards and Christmas mixes, we won't be posting any other new mixes this month. But feel free to submit a Christmas themed mix/compilation for this month. We'll put up any Christmas stuff made into this category, and it will likely receive fast server immortality here every December.
well, the archive server should be working again so... everyone try to download shit and if it don't work um... lemme know here. except for geez's beatles mix. that appears to be lost. um... dunno what happened there.
Voting starts in the annual awards type craziness in December. Because of the amount of mixes its impractical and impossible for us to keep one per mixer online for judging/voting purposes. So we'd like folks to nominate 5 mixes each from the year (November 23, 2003 up till November 5, 2004) and the top 8 mixes will be entered in the best mix category for the awards next month. You can vote via email or via the comments at the bottom of this post.
Just letting you know that the archive server is going to be down at least until I get my next paycheck (about a week and a half). This hard drive is acting totally funky and now I'm scared it's just going to die so I'm pulling it out of the computer altogether. If naz told you about a way to get older mixes this summer... I notice that's still possible. This won't affect our Christmas plans, which I should mention here: Come December 1 b00mb0x will only be dealing in 2 things - Mixes nominated for awards and Christmas mixes. Everything else new is gonna disappear or not be put on the site until January. It's like we're taking December off for awards and good cheer! If you'd like to make a Christmas mix, we'll post that, but that's it in December (and their are a lovely amount of xmas mixes already, I'm happy to report).
We've reached out bandwidth limit for this month. The new mixes, served at mixes.bmbx.org, will be down for 7 days, that's when our billing cycle flips and restarts. Feel free to donate for our bandwidth. It goes right to our hosting company. Just go to mixes.bmbx.org or to the donate link to the left to do it. Older mixes, served on the klunky slowish server, are still available. And we are hosting Pass the Parcel on a different server, so that can keep going.
The ftp was down for a good bit of yesterday despite the little green thingie saying it was up. This is just to let you know it's back up again. I try to make the green thingie red when the server goes down, but I wasn't around yesterday. Sorry!
Just like that! There's plenty of boards and websites dealing with remixes and bootlegs, so from now on we're just posting mixes. It's been fun.
I've just banned the words holdem, poker, blackjack, Cialis and few other things from the blog comments because I hate free expression.
The mixer list is now updated and will remain so for good. It's automated now. Good side of that is if we put up a mix of yours on here, your name will appear on the right forever. Bad news is yeah, it's a giant list cuz everyone that every contributed something to the site is now on it. I used to prune off people who hadn't contributed for more then a year but it was a pain in the ass and we're trying to get more automated. So gigantic list of esoteric nicknames it is. Share and Enjoy!
We're working on the archive for the last couple of days and we should have it ready, more or less, by the middle of the week. No new stuff is going to be posted until this is done. Thanks!
b00mb0x is getting a facelift, manicure and, time-permitting, a rimjob. You can comment and make suggestions at our always exciting forum.
Folks with b00mb0x.org email addresses can now apply filters and change their own passwords via http://mailboxes.b00mb0x.org/. Anyone who wants a b00mb0x email/webmail account can have one.
We've made a few changes to our servers, but we've run into a little snag. The fast server can no longer talk to the archive server. What the hell does that mean? Well, there might be a little delay in new material being posted until we can figure out a workaround.
Deep Disco Force, Lionel Vinyl, LV15, Ez-Lee, M3, Steve JH Christ, E-Jitz, Dunproofin and Pop Razors @ Trier in Germany on the 19th and 20th March. Full Details.
Many thanks to sloogigan, who's helped us out immensly by upgrading everyone's pages to Movable Type. This makes running the site easier for lazy assholes like me. Good, then.
Grab what you want from the fast server over the next two days, the mixes on there are getting transferred to the ftp to make way for the awards mixes on the http server. Gosh damn, this is exciting.
OKKKKKKK, I've had some problems getting back from New York this week and there's lots of new emails, mixes and nominations that I'm behind on. So, nominations for this year's awards will now close on the 22nd of November. A page listing the categories and what's eligible will go up this weekend. Anyone who's mailed this week will get a response this weekend. Promise.
It's nearly awards time! Mixers have until the 5th of November to nominate one of their own mixes/remixes/tunes apiece in the following categories for public voting. Best Mix
There's also a Best metal mix ever and best Mixer category that doesn't require nominations. If you don't nominate, we'll pick a mix on your behalf. All mixes that appeared on this page between December 2002 and November 2003 qualify. We've bumped the dates up this year so we can get cracking on the voting forms before Christmas, booze and drugs wrap their tentacles around us. Email admin@b00mb0x.org with your nominations.
Here's how: Go to http://b00mb0x.org/front/cat_mixername.html Check the six digit code under the mix entry and add a # before it. Add that to end of the url. http://b00mb0x.org/front/cat_mixername.html#000000, for example. You get fast free hosting of a couple of gigs of bandwidth and the site gets a few pages views. Everyone's happy.
The streams have to go (for now at least). Basically, just because of the time involved in uploading them. In their place, over the next few weeks, will be many more mixes being stored on the fast server for much longer (probably up to three months). Crypticon has bought his own Internet server, and we've got space there starting next week.
I'll be broadcasting a playlist of my favorite thingies until another mixer comes and knocks me off. Some mixes, some of my favorite recent downloads (including unmixed radiohead! muhahaha). You need to listen so you can be as (un)cool as me. :P see the links on the right to tune in.
Due to anonymous complains to our web host, b00mb0x.org will be shutting down at the end of the day. Sorry, it's been fun.
Enough of this forum craziness. Here's the old skool b00mb0x message board.
Our chat room has moved to a new network. For mIRC, either click this link or enter the following details: server - b00mb0x.mine.nu room - #b00mb0x. Web users can simply press the chat link on the left.
DJ Myles has his own night at a london club. so if you're in the area...
This time tomorrow evening marks the first in a weekly series of b00mb0x shows on Staticb0x radio. LV15 and assorted will be broadcasting from 8pm to 2am G.M.T.

The server for the mixes is down for no apparent reason since this afternoon. So the links to the mixes on this site won't work. You can still get mixes, however, via IRC or AIM. Copy the mix name you want from this site; then use AIM or IRC to connect to username: b00mb0t on AIM or user |b00mb0t| on irc.ctcp.net port: 6667. Hopefully it will be back up soon; hehe.
Slight site revamp that adds new pages and a new menu (as you can see). New sections include a Best of 2002 Awards ballot for y'all, a new section called Gallery for images, a new electronic section dedicated to original/manipulated electronic sounds, and a history section that simply lets new visitors kind of know what this is all about. Mix update coming very soon. |
